 '' Gajaman'' released on 20 January 2023, is a ground breaking film in the Sinhala cinema industry, marking a significant milestone as Sri Lanka's first fully 3D animated feature film. Directed by Chanaka Perera, the film is modern retelling of the beloved Sri Lankan comic character ''Gajaman'', originally created by Camillus Perera in the 1970s. And a romantic comedy 3D animated movie called Gajaman written by Suneth Chitrananda and Gaminda Priyaviraj. It was co- produced by John Fonseka and Chamika Jinadasa, Executive Produced by Isuru Silva and Isuru David for Studio 101. And the film makes the hallmark in the Sri Lankan cinema industry by becoming the first ever three dimensional (3D) animation movie in Sri Lanka using motion capture technology. The two lead characters of the film was dubbed by popular dubbing artist duet, Suneth Chitrananda and Gaminda Priyaviraj. Other cast includes, Rashi Prabodha, Yureni Noshika, Sunil Perera, Dasun Pathirana and many newcomers. Background score by Ravihans Wetakepotha. Sound designing and re- recording, mixing by Nisal Gangodage.by  Songs composed by Anushka Udana Liyanage ( Wasthi Productions), Ridma Weerawardana, Dinesh Gamage. As well as film trailer was released at a press conference held at the National Film Corporation's Tharangani Cinema in April 2018. Gajaman is the highest grossed Sri Lankan movie of all time it reached 610 Million LKR

The film opens with Gajaman's house in the morning. In his bedroom, he wakes up and gets his foot stuck in a mousetrap. ''Gajaman'' tells the story of a simple villager, deeply devoted to this boss, Magodis Thuma, a powerful statesman. When tasked with picking up Magodis Thuma's daughter Padmavati, from the airport, Gajaman falls love with her at first sight. His naive attempts to win her heart lead to a series of comedic mishaps, including a misfired love letter, a failed magic spell and mistakenly stealing the hair of Magodis Thuma's wife. As Gajaman's blunders escalate, Padmavati finds a clue that ties him to the chaos, speaking her suspicion and prompting an investigation.

  • Visuals and Animation:- A major highlight of the film is its impressive 3D animation, a technical feat for Sri Lankan cinema. The character designs, particularly the titular character Gajaman, are visually appealing and capture the essence of the comic strip. And the film's landscapes and environments are well- rendered, offering a visually rich experience.
  •  Storyline and Character Development:- The plot, while predictable, follows a classic romantic comedy structure. Gajaman's character is endearing and relatable, but there's room for more depth and complexity. Also supporting characters, like Magodisthuma and Amdan, provide comic relief but could have been developed further.
  • Cultural Significance:- ''Gajaman'' occupies a unique place in the Sinhala film industry for several reasons, ushering in a new era of animation to Sri Lanka and bringing to life a character deeply embedded in the country's cultural consciousness. The success of the film shows. The potential for animated films in Sri Lanka and paves the way for future projects in this genre. Moreover, ''Gajaman'' act as a bridge between generations, introducing the character to younger audiences while appealing to older audiences who grew up on comics. Rooted in Sri Lankan culture and social issues, the film's humor resonates with a wide audience, making it both a nostalgic and contemporary cinematic experience.
  • Music:- As well as the music and sound design complement the film's tone, blending traditional Sri Lankan musical elements with modern beats. The soundtracks plays a significant role in setting the mood and enhancing the overall viewing experience, making the film both a visual and auditory delight. 

So, ''Gajaman'' is a commendable effort in Sri Lankan cinema, showcasing the potential of local animation talent. While it has its strengths in visual and humor, the film could benefit from a stronger narrative and character development. It's a promising start for the animation industry in the country and opens doors for future, more ambitious projects.
